Songs and Praise

Aylesbury's Music Evangelism 2015

The AFM UK Aylesbury group hosted their first major evangelical outreach programme on the 19th of April 2015. The group was supported by 12 choir members from London, Birmingham and Manchester led by Rev. Ola Balogun.
The event took place in the multi-purpose sports hall of a community centre in Aylesbury. With over 60 people in attendance, the day started with a Sunday school on Christ’s Voluntary Humiliation facilitated by Bro. Felix Panganayi. Members and visitors alike made lively contributions resulting in a vibrant, well-attended Sunday school class. Having discussed the definition of humility and the purpose of Christ’s voluntary humiliation, the class surmised that to be a Christian is to be Christ-like and to be Christ-like is to be humble.
The programme started with a congregational song – “My Jesus I Love Thee”. The large hall echoed as the congregation sang heartily before being led in an opening prayer and an opening welcome address delivered by the host leader Bro. Felix. The choir opened with a choral declaration that God is great, good and Merciful.
Each choral song that followed received a mix of spontaneous applause and loud Amen from the congregation. We were also thrilled by Instrumental performances from the Orchestra including Flute and Violin solos from Bro. Jerry Aina and Sis Aanu Sodipe. The choir renditions were punctuated by two testimony sessions when members of the choir and congregation gave glory to God for the marvellous things he has done in their lives. The testimonies centred on miracles God performed in the lives of the individuals in one case relating to visa problems and promotion at work and another case successes in exams. The loud amen to the testimonies indicated that the congregation could relate very well to these victories and took encouragement from the testimonies.
The spirit filled atmosphere continued as the choir rendered the remaining numbers including a mixed quartet singing “The Joy of heaven”. This set the stage for the sermonette given by Bro. Ola. from Hebrews 2. He warned of the danger of negligence in paying attention to the word of God we have heard over our life time and not allowing the entrapment of chasing after a good life in this world take us away from the more important goal of making heaven.
When the alter call was made the congregation was encouraged to spend time praying on the makeshift mourner benches. The congregation reverently sang the last congregational song, All to Jesus I surrender before the closing prayer. The congregation later sat to eat the hot lunch prepared by the Aylesbury branch Sisters.
This was a wonderful time of Christian fellowship which allowed plenty time for the congregation to meet and reacquaint. There is no doubt that the presence of the Lord was at this event and souls were blessed for which we give all glory to God.
