Come and See: Edinburgh Special Weekend Meetings

Wester Hailes High School, Edinburgh, Scotland | 23-25 October 2026

Brethren from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen gathered for a spiritually refreshing weekend of fellowship, testimony, music and the ministry of God’s Word under the theme “Come and See” (John 1:46). From Friday evening’s virtual gathering to Sunday’s Gospel Concert, the invitation was simple and personal: come to Jesus, discover who He is, experience His transforming power, and share the good news with others.

Friday – “We Have Found Him”

The weekend opened on Friday evening with a virtual Sing-Along and Testimony Night. At its peak, 88 Zoom connections were recorded, with many more joining through family connections. Following the welcome by Reverend Michael Owolabi, Director of the Work in Scotland, Sister Maosi Hennon led a lively time of singing and testimony.

Children, young people and adults testified to God’s goodness in salvation, sanctification, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, divine protection, deliverance and victory. A recorded solo by Sister Bunmi Akindele, “Who Can Move the Mountains That Are Hindering You Today?”, prepared hearts for Brother Ade Akerejola’s sermonette, “We Have Found Him,” from John 1:41, 45-46.

The message brought the theme into sharp focus: Jesus Christ is not merely someone to hear about, but Someone to seek, find and know personally. The brethren were encouraged to bring every obstacle to Him and then responded in individual prayer.

Saturday – Fellowship in the Midst of the Storm

Saturday’s planned outreach had to be cancelled because of strong winds and travel disruption. Yet the weather did not dampen the spirit of the weekend. Brethren from Glasgow and Aberdeen joined the Edinburgh choir for rehearsal ahead of Sunday’s Gospel Concert, turning the afternoon into a valuable time of fellowship, unity and shared preparation for the work of God.

Sunday – Faith for Every Generation

Sunday began with a joyful children’s presentation during Sunday School. Children from Edinburgh and Glasgow shared memory verses, songs and a short drama built around “Come and See,” while Sister Tamilore Oshode ministered with a flute solo. Their confident participation was a reminder that the Gospel invitation belongs to every generation.

The classes then continued with Sister Florence Owolabi teaching the adult lesson, “The Tribulation Plagues,” Brother Demola Ojo leading the Answer Class, and Sister Opemipo Shobukola teaching the Primary Pals lesson, “A Special Day.” Reverend Michael Owolabi concluded the review with a message, “Jesus Calms Every Storm,” from Mark 4:35-41 – particularly fitting after a weekend of difficult weather. Sunday School attendance totalled 83: 54 adults and 29 children.

A Gospel Concert of Praise and Invitation

The weekend reached its musical high point on Sunday afternoon with the Gospel Concert. Fifty-eight adults and 28 children attended in person, while a further 36 virtual connections enabled friends and brethren farther afield to join.

The orchestra opened with “Jesus Shall Reign / Ride On, Ride On in Majesty,” followed by vibrant choir selections including “I’m Feeling Fine / The Lord Almighty Reigns,” “Mansion, Robe and Crown / City Called Heaven / Roll Away Lord,” and later “Sing Out / Way Maker.” Brother Edima Obong also blessed the congregation with a trumpet solo, while an orchestral rendition of “Humoresque / Down by the Riverside” added to the variety of the programme.

A memorable moment came with the Yoruba presentation “Ẹ Fi Ìyìn Fún Olúwa Ní Ibi Mímọ́ Rẹ̀” (Praise the Lord in His Sanctuary). The congregation was taught the song and invited to join the choir, creating a warm expression of united praise across cultures and generations. Testimonies from Sisters Semilanu Oshode, Joanna John and Tolulope Ibukun further highlighted God’s faithfulness.

Reverend Michael Owolabi’s sermonette, “Be the Light of the World,” turned the celebration outward: those who have come to Christ are called to reflect His light to others. The choir’s closing “His Love Medley” provided a fitting reminder of the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ. Sister Debbie Olorunsaiye, leader of the Edinburgh group, gave the closing acknowledgements, and Dr Scott Arthur MP, Edinburgh South West, also expressed appreciation for the occasion.

Come, See – and Tell Others

Despite the rainy, windy and stormy conditions across Edinburgh and Scotland, the 2026 Edinburgh Special Weekend Meetings became a season of spiritual encouragement, joyful fellowship and thanksgiving. The theme echoed through the testimonies, teaching, children’s ministry, music and preaching: come and see Jesus for yourself.

We give God all the glory for His protection and blessing, and thank the ministers, musicians, choir members, workers, visiting brethren, online participants, friends and guests whose prayers and service supported the meetings. Our prayer is that the seeds sown will continue to bear fruit – drawing souls to Christ, strengthening believers and inspiring us to extend Philip’s timeless invitation to others: “Come and see.”
