Being Faithful
“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much.” – Luke 16:10
“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much.” – Luke 16:10
The young man had been saved just a few weeks, when the minister asked him if he would like to have a job at the church. It did not require a lot of skill, but it did require that he be faithful.
They needed someone to be at the church early on Tuesday evening to watch the door and do a little security work. The young man was still in school and not employed, so it worked out fine for him to be there at 6:30 each Tuesday evening. After a period of time, a different approach was taken toward securing the church, so his job ended. Not long after that, the young man was asked to be a substitute teacher in the Sunday school.
When this young man was seeking the Lord to be established in the faith, he consecrated to do anything the Lord wanted him to do. That was over fifty years ago, and since then there have been many more opportunities to serve the Lord in a variety of ways. Today, he says that while some tasks seemed to challenge him more than others, they were not based upon his ability, but upon his availability and faithfulness. The Lord does not need talented individuals; He can give talent to whomever He chooses. What God needs is faithful and willing workers.
We may feel that we contribute very little to the work of the Gospel, yet today’s focus verse tells us that if we will only be faithful in what we do, it is much. As we continue walking with God and growing as Christians, the responsibilities He gives us will increase in both commitment and importance. We might begin to feel overwhelmed by, or inadequate for some tasks He gives us, but again we can find encouragement in this focus verse. We do not have to be the best at what we do for God; all He asks is that we be faithful.
Serving God is truly a privilege. It is nothing less than an opportunity to have an eternal impact on the lives of others. What greater cause could there be? Today, may we determine to be faithful even in the least of the things He asks of us.
