No Luggage Needed

Jun 14, 2023

“For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” – 1 Timothy 6:7

A big suitcase lay in haphazard fashion on the edge of the bed, waiting to be filled. It did not have long to wait. The first items dropped in were colored short sleeve shirts, then light skirts and dresses sailed in on top of them. The flip-flops, suntan lotion, a beach towel, and sunglasses were also plopped into the immense depths of the case. The traveler, my oldest daughter, was getting ready for a trip to a tropical island off the southeastern coast of the United States. As she thought about the different activities of her trip, she packed what items would be needed. Looking at her overflowing bag, she wondered if she had forgotten anything.

Trips are often looked forward to for a long time and are usually filled with exciting plans and activities. The trip of a lifetime is awaiting all Christians someday. When the Lord comes back to this earth at the Rapture, those who are saved will travel through the skyways to join Him in the air. Their final destination will be Heaven, where they will live forever with the Lord. Nothing could be more exciting!

Everyone can be a part of this glorious journey, but we must make preparations for it. However, these preparations are not like a typical trip. We do not need to pack clothing, for we will have robes of white to wear. Nor will we need to bring food; the Lamb of God will feed us. We will certainly not need another Kleenex as there will be no more tears. In fact, we will not need anything that could be packed in a suitcase—nothing can be taken with us from this earth.

The Bible is our guide for how to be ready for the Rapture, and it makes clear that the preparation must be made in our hearts. We need to have our sins forgiven and be living in obedience to God’s Word. He must be dwelling in our hearts.

Are we ready for the Rapture? Accumulating possessions on earth will not help us get to Heaven, for we can take nothing with us when we leave this world. Let’s put away any earthly baggage that might weigh us down, and follow God’s instructions. The trip of a lifetime is coming! Are we prepared?
