God Knows His Own

“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his.” – 2 Timothy 2:19

A while back, I heard a story about a young boy who had trouble recognizing his mom. One night this little boy’s parents were preparing for a night out and the children had been put to bed before the sitter arrived. Mom went downstairs to her room and began to get ready. She had her hair up in big rollers and had applied a facial mask, when she heard the boys jumping around above her head. She hollered up the stairs several times and things would quiet down for a few minutes, but then the jumping would resume. Finally, she ran up the stairs, burst into their room, and firmly said, “Get into bed and stay there!” The boys both scrambled for their beds and never made a sound. Mom went out and stood outside the door listening. After a minute or two she heard the youngest boy say, “Who was that lady?”

Our focus verse today contains a great blessing just in the simple fact that God knows those that are His. God recognizes us! We may change physically over time, but God recognizes us by what is in our hearts. It is in the heart where we decide, Yes, I love God and I am going to serve Him. That is what identifies us as a child of God. He looks down over mankind and peers in the heart and says, “Yes, that one is mine.”

When we open up and communicate with God, we get to know Him better and our relationship with Him grows and becomes more intimate. Not only does He know and recognize us, but we also know and recognize Him, which leads us to have more confidence in our prayers. When we go to God in prayer, we know that He hears us, that He is already aware of our need, and that we have the petition which we desire of Him.

The Lord knows who you are; never think that He has forgotten you, regardless of what your circumstances may be. You can bring any need you have to Him and be assured that He knows you and is ready to work on your behalf today.
