I Just Know, That’s All

Oct 16, 2020

Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. – Matthew 18:4

I was working on writing a devotional when a little girl came up and asked me if she could help. I asked,
“Can you write a devotional?” Her reply, “Yes, I can.” This is the devotional she wrote:

I asked her how she knew that. “I just know, that’s all,” she replied. “Did you learn that in Sunday school?” She shook her head. “Did your mom and dad
teach you that Jesus loves you?” “No, I just know.” I sat and gazed at her with wonder. It became clear to me that she had a simple, pure, and unadulterated
knowledge that God loves her. The confidence she exuded was not misplaced either—He does love her.

In the Bible we are taught that Jesus loves children. In Luke 18:16 Jesus tells us to “suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for
of such is the kingdom of God.”

God wants us, as adults, to have the same confidence toward Him as this little girl does. I am loved, and I know it, because God made me and I exist in
His universe. Not because I am special, smart, cute, sweet, or funny, but just because I am His creation.

God’s love remains constant. It does not waver at times in highs and lows or wind around in twists and turns. As we grow older the simplicity of His love
can get clouded in our reasoning, and it may not seem to be so literal as we deal with life and its issues. Yet, even our lack of understanding does
not change His love for us. May we strive to grasp the huge fact that Jesus loves us all!
