Be Still and Know

May 28, 2021

Be still, and know that I am God. – Psalm 46:10

Once, a friend of mine made a decision for his life that really concerned me. Afterwards, it seemed that wherever I was, whatever I was doing, a burden
for him and his future was with me. That burden did not go away, and I eventually reached a point where I knew I could not carry it around anymore.
I had heard the phrase “Give it to the Lord,” but I did not know how to actually do that. What do you do when you have prayed everyday for the
Lord to relieve a burden but it still weighs you down?

One day, I got on my knees and cried out to God to work this situation out. He answered by putting a peace in my heart that was so strong, along with
this simple statement: “Trust Me.” I began to realize that part of giving a burden to Jesus means choosing to trust Him with it. God wants us to
trust Him even when it seems as though there is no answer. He is working for us, so we do not need to fret about resolving our problems on our
own.

Today’s focus verse instructs us to “be still, and know that I am God.” This means more than just not moving and acknowledging God. It is referring
to an unexplainable calm that settles over the soul, and a confidence that no matter what happens, everything will be alright because God is in
complete control. It is an inside stillness that comes from trusting God and a quietness that fills the mind with rest. It is what happens when
we finally give our burdens to the Lord, and it is a wonderful thing to experience!

Do you ever worry about difficult situations that seem to have no answer? Are you ever afraid of what the future may hold for you or a loved one? Maybe
there is some pain in your life that will not go away. God does not want us to be buried by these burdens. Choose to trust Him. Be still and know
that He is God, and He will take your burdens and put peace in their place.
