Every Corner

May 24, 2021

Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. – Luke 18:22

There is one corner in our house where Papa’s recliner sits. That is his own personal corner where he keeps all of his
treasures within arm’s reach. He has a bookcase there, with his favorite books and Bible along with a couple of helps, a stash of two years’ worth
of Apostolic Faith magazines, some tracts, a calendar of church activities and anything else he thinks he can stash there “in case I might need it.”
I can feel free to rearrange, clean, discard, and vacuum the rest of the house without notice, but I approach his area with extreme caution.

In our homes, everyone usually has a “corner” to call his own, but when I relate this to the Christian’s heart, I have to ask, “Is there a corner in my
heart where Jesus cannot go?”

Every corner of a Christian’s heart must be committed to God and His ministry. There can be no independent corners, no area that is “off limits.” We have
been bought with a price, and we belong to Christ.

When the rich young ruler heard the words of Jesus telling him to sell all, the Bible says he went away sorrowful. That is one of the saddest accounts
in the Word of God. He thought he had it all but he would not allow God into that corner of his life. He wanted to keep things within arm’s reach—just
in case.

Periodically I search the corners of my heart to make sure that all the dust, cobwebs, piles, and junk are swept clear and every aspect is open to the
prompting of the Spirit. How about you? Are there any corners in your heart where Jesus cannot go? If you let Jesus take control of that area today,
He will only make it better than it is now.
