No Fear in Love
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. – 1 John 4:18
When I was a little boy, I was full of fear. I was scared by virtually everything: darkness, lightning, strange noises,
and isolation were at the top of my list. My parents tried to help me by making sure I was always in the company of people, but that never removed
my fear.
As a teenager, another dread attached itself to my life—what about tomorrow? Facing school away from home and being in a dorm room was disconcerting.
I wanted to get over that fear by surrendering my life to Jesus, but I allowed peer pressure to keep me from making that decision.
One glorious day, with God’s help, I was able to dispel the enemy by turning my life over to Jesus, not caring what anybody had to say. Guess what? Jesus
took away my fear and replaced it with joy, love, happiness, and confidence! I no longer feared the coming of the Lord and all the judgments that will
go along with it. No wonder the Bible says, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (John 8:36). From that moment on, I
had no fear—I was set free.
Many people today live with a variety of fears: death, commitment, the condition of the global economy, the stock market, increasing crime, war, etc. The
remedy for these is found in the atoning Blood of Jesus. The devil would bind us up in fear if we allowed him to, but with God’s help we can withstand
the enemy.
Before I was saved, I lived in constant distress. Now, with Jesus living in me, if fear or anxiety rear their ugly heads, I just turn to Jesus. He delivers
me, and He comforts me. If there is some uneasiness hovering somewhere in your life, tell it to Jesus. His love will remove it, and let you sleep,
shop, eat, walk, and even live alone. Jesus is perfect love, and “Perfect love casteth out fear.”
