Seeking a Home

Jun 28, 2021

But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. – Deuteronomy 4:29

Phis one is too small; this one is in a bad neighborhood. Oh, this one’s cute . . . oops, too expensive! Off we go again, driving the streets, looking
for that one special house. How many hours have we spent doing this? Who knows? It is not an easy task. So much time and effort is involved in
finding a place of residence that fits all the “requirements.” Then, sometimes when it seems you have found the perfect place, someone else jumps
in ahead of you. I do not know how many times someone has stepped in ahead of us and a house was quickly sold before we could even make an offer!
What a disappointment! But God knows which one is right for us, and when the day comes that we find that special house, everything will fall into
place, and surely it will be worth it all!

The Bible says, “Seek, and ye shall find” (Matthew 7:7). Is it talking about a house? No, although I do believe God will help us find the house that
will meet our needs. What it does mean is that if we seek the Lord, we will find Him. My recent experience in looking for a home has given me a
bit of a new perspective about what it means to really seek for something. For example, I have learned that houses do not just fall into your lap;
you really have to put forth some effort! When we seek the Lord, we will have to put aside some other activities in order to spend time in prayer.
It will take soul-searching, consecration of our will to His, and determination to persist until we have the answer. If we do that, God promises
that we will find Him, and unlike looking for a house, no one can jump in ahead of us and claim our blessing. When we have sought the Lord and
He reveals Himself to us, no one can take that away.

Do you want something from the Lord? Perhaps you need a specific spiritual experience, or direction for your life. Or, perhaps you feel the need for
a closer walk with Him. Put forth some effort. Spend some time “driving the streets,” on your knees. Seek Him with all of your heart and He will
surely be found.
