A Small Miracle
No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. – Psalm 84:11
Three months before my husband passed away, he ordered an orchid plant for me for my birthday. We had been married forty
years, and he knew how much I love orchids, so even as ill as he was, he made sure I got one for my special day. I enjoyed the plant that year and
placed it outside my patio after it finished blooming, but it did not bloom again the following season.
Earlier this year, I noticed that the orchid plant had a stem growing up from the bulb and I recognized it as a flowering stem. I was thrilled because
the plant had not bloomed for three years! I brought it into the garage and placed it under a fluorescent light, carefully acclimating it to a warmer
climate so it would not drop the buds. After a couple of weeks, I brought it into the house. The plant seemed to be accustomed to its new environment,
but alas! The new buds began to turn yellow and fall off one by one.
Even though the orchid was not a big deal, I was disappointed that it would not bloom. One morning as I walked past it I prayed, “Lord, will You make this
plant bloom again?” Then I forgot that I had even breathed that prayer, as I was sure it was not an important need. Nevertheless, a couple of days
later one of the buds began to open! Then I remembered the prayer I had made and realized God had seen and granted even that small desire. I am now
enjoying a beautiful orchid, and it looks like two more are going to bloom also!
It fills my heart with praise to think how wonderful God is, to increase our faith by answering our minor, and seemingly insignificant, requests. Truly,
He withholds no good thing from those who walk uprightly. Whatever we might be facing today, we can trust that there is nothing too big or too small
to ask of the Lord. He hears every prayer and He loves to give us the desires of our hearts.
