A New Hom
Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. – Matthew 6:8
We had been renting a house for several months after relocating to a new city. Then, the time finally came when a house
of our own was on the horizon. We were considering having a house built for us, and as we made decisions about carpeting, light fixtures, appliances,
and the many other elements of a new home, we found that we had gone over our budget. It seemed as though we might have to start looking for something
else that would be more affordable. We started to wonder, Is the dream of owning our own home just a carrot dangling on a string in front of us—always
there but never quite reachable?
We made the decision to move forward with that home, but the process was dragged out by one delay after another. More than two months after the estimated
time of completion, it was clear that moving in was still weeks away. It felt like the house may never be finished. One day, during my devotions, I
found myself praying that the Lord would return so I could step into my mansion in Heaven and be done worrying about my earthly home! Then the question
came to me, Shouldn’t that be my first desire anyway? Jesus is my reason for living, and the One who puts love and joy in my heart. Whether life seems
to be perfect or I am going through a trial, should my greatest desire be to see Him? I want my heart to always long for the day when I will meet Him
face to face!
It can be easy to focus on the many issues that come up in our daily lives, but they should be secondary to our desire to see Jesus and live with Him forever.
After all, the treasures we have down here are all gifts from Him. They must be held with a loose hand as we keep serving Him until He returns.
Dear Lord, Thank You for Your many blessings. Help me never to forget that each one is a gift from You, and to keep my main focus on walking with You and reaching out to others along the way. Amen.
