Believing the Truth
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. – John 14:6
Having little experience in the ways of the world, children are susceptible to believing many things. It can be difficult
to discern between fantasy and reality, fiction or fact.
When I was about eight years old, my older sister told one of my younger sisters and me that there was a little “fairy” family living in the maple tree
in our front yard. I am not quite sure we really believed this, but from time to time, we did try our best to see if we could catch a glimpse of these
creatures. My older sister would describe such scenes as the mother rocking her baby on the front porch of their little home. When she did this, we
would run around the tree to try and spot them before they disappeared, but we were always “too late,” and my sister would say, “Oh, they’ve gone inside
now.” We really wanted to believe her stories, but it did not take long for us to realize that this was just our older sister’s way of teasing her
younger siblings.
Sometimes, even adults will believe what they want to be true, without trying to find out what the truth really is. The question has been asked, “What
is truth?” God’s Word clearly outlines what we need to know about truth and non-truths. It also has made plain the fact that we need to be ready when
Jesus returns to earth for His people. We do not need to be theologians to figure this out. Yes, there are some things in the Bible that we may not
fully understand, but the Holy Spirit is faithful to help us understand what we need to know—beginning with how to be ready for Heaven! No matter
what anyone else may say, the Bible is clear that the only way to be saved is through Jesus.
Today’s focus verse says that Jesus is the “way, the truth, and the life.” Through Him alone we can know the truth and have eternal life, and any other
way is just a false fairytale. We do not have to be confused about what is true or false because God has made it plain in His Word, and He proves Himself
true daily. May each of us choose to believe the truth of God’s Word today.
