My Son—My Heir

Oct 07, 2020

That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. – Titus 3:7

I knew I would enjoy having my own child, but when our son was born, the emotions I began to feel were more than I had imagined. I was a dad now! This
was my son! He would grow up being my responsibility to love and support, to correct, to play with, and to teach to love the Lord. The excitement
and bond I felt with him moved me to work my camera overtime as I tried to capture him from every possible angle.

Although the newness of having a son has mildly dimmed since he was first born, the exciting adventure of watching him grow continues to intensify.
It is wonderful to watch him develop from month to month. First, it was making eye contact. Then, it was seeing his big smile. Later, it was realizing
that he had begun to recognize his mom and me. We were thrilled when he rolled over onto his tummy for the first time—it made our day!

My son is now seven months old. I know he still has a long way to go, but it will be exciting to see him reach various landmarks in his life like crawling,
walking, talking, riding a bike, his first day of school, driving a car, and many others.

As I enjoy watching my son grow, I cannot help but think of how our Heavenly Father takes pleasure in watching His children grow—we are His heirs
through Christ. God rejoiced at our spiritual birth, and He delights in watching every step we take to grow spiritually. He watches with anticipation
as we reach the various landmarks in our spiritual life. God is always there for us, to hear about our day, to teach us, to comfort us, to love
us, and to keep alive for us that hope of eternal life. Though some of the spiritual milestones awaiting us may seem daunting from our perspective,
we can trust that our heavenly Father is right by our side, eager to help us succeed and to rejoice with us when we do.
